John’s Wellness Journey Week 3

This last week was a great week even though I gained 1.6 pounds. I did a ton of cardio and implemented some weight training into the daily routine just like Maria Hicks said that I should do. I think my earlobes are sore and I didn’t know that was possible. Thank goodness she showed me how to do planks. I am probably better off walking the plank than doing them in my routine. I started to walk on the treadmill in the early morning before work as well as after dinner four times a week. It has kept my metabolism in check and burning throughout the day. I felt that I lost inches in certain places this week rather than pounds. I added another notch to my belt loop and need a new belt. My pants are starting to get looser which is a great feeling unless you are a co-worker in Metro and keep thinking I might lose them when I bend over to pick something up. I added more vegetables and less fruits to cut down on sugar and, it has been a challenge. It is really frustrating that after how much I did this week that it resulted in a weight gain. It just takes 1 meal to mess the whole week up for you. It really wasn’t like I was eating a lot of bad items before I started this new lifestyle but, it was actually what I was eating that was the problem. Thank God my wife and kids are there to support me in making this change. It is NOT easy to do and it would be really easy to just say no to working out today. Every time I want to skip a workout, I keep thinking of all of those times that I did and, that is why I am here in this position today. I looked in the mirror the other day and saw some subtle changes BUT the battle has just begun and I need to work harder before Cancun.

17 more days until takeoff. Fasten your seat belts and I can now! But much more to do.

Good work Kontos!! Keep it up!! Next week will show a bigger loss! More broccoli and more cauliflower…plus, don’t forget, cucumbers and tomatos. I add Bragg’s sauce to my veggies. Just a pinch. It is so good!! Better than salt! I look forward to your next weigh day!! Remember…inches are coming off as well as pounds. Christmas is coming and people can get you new clothes so don’t worry about loose clothes now :0) That’s what I am banking on :0)

Don’t focus too much on the pounds. Your weight can fluctuate significantly day to day just from water retention. Remember, you are working towards a new lifestyle and that takes a lot of time and energy. Your body will try to maintain its weight at your current lowered caloric intake level so the exercise is a key component of the new lifestyle.

    Keep up the good work.

Fail :0( I ate chocolate yesterday! I had an entire candy bar and that put me over my alloted Weight Watcher points of 31!! I am hoping to work it off today by running around at Lowes with my husband and also looking at flowers to plant! I found soy nuts are pretty tasty and filling as they have lots of protein. I suppose that if you fall off the horse, you have to get right back on…doesn’t mean it’s over! I love vegetables, thanks to all the recipes Maria Hicks posts on the website. I went to Trader Joe’s and bought a quart of ready-made diced tomatos, celery, onions, and salsa mixed together and it’s awesome!! Goes great with torilla chips for a low-cal snack or even when making tacos for dinner. I am finding I want taste so I’m kicking up the “heat” somewhat. I believe that as I am getting older, I find most food bland, even pasta and rice. It has to have something on it besides just butter, salt and pepper..yuck! So…this week I’m going to sauce it up a bit. My husband is making his infamous tofu stir fry with vegetables over brown rice! I love this dish because you can put any kind of sauce you want to heat it up and it’s all low calorie and healthy and filling! My biggest challenge is to get more exercise! I’m lazy!!

John Kontos has been encouraging me to attempt to do more exercising like he has been engaging in and I have been trying this at home. I have to break out in sweat…not just walk slowly, etc. This is my challenge for next week. Thank you John for encouraging me! I’m stubborn and it’s hard to get me motivated but I believe I’m on a roll…..LOL….it may appear this way when I’m exercising on the floor :0)

If you break down and eat a candy bar just remember that you start right back on the next meal and not the next day. You are human and will be tempted from time to time. I like to think of how long it will take to work off that candy bar. That usually helps. You can do it Sandy!!!! Get outside and enjoy the weather and take a nice brisk walk each night after dinner. It will help you out. I am really trying to take it to the next level. I have a goal to hit. I have finally started seeing my weight come off and stay off and it feels great. It helps a ton that I have co-worker’s that care and show it. Maria Hicks is a Godsend and is such a smart Health Coach. 12 days until Cancun……I feel good this week and looking forward to flwexing some muscle and showing off the tattoos on the beach.

Wellll….I did poorly this past week because of some of my bad choices but what you spoke of is so true! After eating something that is not healthy and full of calories doesn’t mean you have to continue eating that way…go on to the next healthy meal. Here I go….next Monday I will show a good weight loss!! I am going to flex some muscle LOL! I agree about Maria! What a wonderful young lady!! I love emailing her and letting her know how good/bad I’m doing…and she’s always there to lend an ear and to give me ideas, etc.
