Douglas
L. Kapnick

Chairman and CEO
Douglas
joined Kapnick and Company in 1965 after graduating
with honors from the University of Michigan with
a BBA degree. He focused his efforts on expanding
the commercial department – growing
the book of business and bringing in new customers
from outside the Adrian area. He became vice
president in 1970. In 1974 he purchased the firm
from his father and was elected president in
1975. Under Douglas’ leadership, the company
has grown to become a medium-sized regional insurance
agency and has gained recognition as an innovative,
well managed company with a reputation for providing
quality service and creative risk management
solutions to their clients.
Douglas is well known and respected for his
community support and involvement. He is chairperson
of the board of trustees of Siena Heights University,
past president and current member of the Adrian
College board of associates, past president and
current director of Bank of Lenawee, director
and current president of Pavilion Bancorp, past
president and current member of the board of
directors of the Greater Adrian Industrial Development
Corporation and director of the Emma Bixby Medical
Center Foundation. Douglas has presided over
and/or served on the board of numerous community
organizations including YMCA of Lenawee, Lenawee
United Way, Lenawee County Chamber of Commerce,
the historic Croswell Opera House, Adrian United
Methodist Church and Adrian Public Schools. Douglas
was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement
Award from Citizens and Hanover Insurance Company,
one of only three individuals ever to receive
the award. He and his wife, Mary, live in Adrian;
they have three children and seven grandchildren.
James
D. Kapnick
CPCU, CIC, LIC
President
Jim joined Kapnick Insurance in 1991 and has
since worked in the commercial lines department
with a strong emphasis on technical and risk
knowledge, sales, marketing and operational management.Jim was
appointed president in June 2003.
Jim holds a BA in marketing from Miami University
in Ohio. His insurance industry experience began
with Northwestern National Insurance Company
in Columbus, Ohio in their commercial insurance
underwriter training program. After a short tenure
there, he left to become an integral part of
the family business his grandfather founded.
Jim is a past chairman of the Lenawee County
Chamber of Commerce and the historic Croswell
Opera House in Adrian. He is very involved with
Adrian Public Schools, and co-chaired
a committee responsible for the successful passing
of a bond proposal that resulted in major
renovations to Adrian’s schools. He also
has been actively involved with the Lenawee United
Way, Adrian Rotary Club, Lenawee County Education
Foundation, Lenawee Community Foundation and
Hospice of Lenawee. He and his wife, Susie, live
in Adrian with their three children.
Michael
L. Kapnick
CPA
Chief Financial Officer,
Chief Operating Officer
Mike Kapnick graduated with a BBA from the University
of Michigan in 1993. After taking and passing
the CPA exam in the fall of 1993, Mike worked
for Ernst & Young in Toledo and Columbus,
Ohio in their audit department.
Mike joined Kapnick Insurance Group
as the controller overseeing the accounting department
in 1996. Appointed Chief Financial Officer and
Chief Operations Officer in 2003, Mike is responsible
for all administration including accounting,
human resource, information technology and office
support. In
2007 Mike and his brother Jim completed the transition
of Kapnick to the third generation by becoming
equal owners.
Mike is actively involved in the Boys & Girls
Club of Lenawee (past President), Croswell Opera
House Foundation, Lenawee Chamber for Economic
Development, Adrian Downtown Development Authority
and Kiwanis. He and his wife Tiffany live
in Adrian with their two daughters.
Stephen J. Peck
President,
Kapnick Benefit Services
Steve
has been President of Kapnick’s Benefit
Services Division since June 2003. The Kapnick
Benefits division is a full service consulting,
brokerage and administrative services firm. Steve
has over 20 years of insurance industry experience,
with expertise in funding, design and vendor
management for large and mid-market employers.
Prior to joining Kapnick Insurance Group, Steve
headed up the Detroit Aon Consulting office,
where he was Senior Vice President. Before that
he was Managing Vice President of Alexander & Alexander.
As President of Kapnick Benefit Services, Steve
is responsible for all Benefit operations, sales
and administration, and is focused on heightening
the visibility of the organization both domestically
and internationally while continuing the
growth of its full-service capabilities. His
innovative leadership style within the Benefit
Services division is constantly moving Kapnick
forward to keep pace with the ever-changing benefits
world, while maintaining the solid foundation
of customer service. Steve is a graduate of the
University of Toledo with a BBA in marketing/management,
and did post graduate studies at Detroit College
of Law. He has been active on several boards
including HAVEN and the St. Clare School Advisory
Board. Steve and his wife, Lorrie, reside in
Grosse Pointe with their three children.
Robert V. Weiland, CIC, LIC
Executive Vice President
Bob
graduated from the University of Michigan in
1979 with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
He began his career in insurance with Johnson & Higgins
as an Account Executive in their Detroit office. In
1982 Bob was hired by Protection Mutual as an
Account Executive, and in 1986 he joined a local
insurance agency as a partner/owner. In June
1990 Bob was hired by Kapnick Insurance to open
the metro Detroit office. He is currently
Executive Vice President - Sales and part of
the Kapnick & Company,
Inc. executive committee. His designations are
CIC and LIC. As a producer and account
executive for both Property & Casualty and
Employee benefits Bob brings a unique perspective
to both clients and the Kapnick organization.
Bob works closely with a number of our Assurex
partners developing international business opportunities
and is a leading proponent of consumer driven
healthcare plans as a way for employers to provide
innovative and cost effective healthcare programs.
Bob and his wife, Mary, reside in Grosse Pointe
with their four children.
