Kapnick Insurance Group Launches Collaborative Private Exchange
Feb. 26, 2013

DETROIT, Michigan – Kapnick Insurance Group, an Assurex Global Partner, announced on February 26, 2013 a unique private marketplace platform that gives employers the widest range of administrative flexibility and employee health benefit options in the industry.

“There is nothing like this in the market today,” said Steve Peck, President – Kapnick Benefit Service. “Our platform now gives employers and their employees maximum choice in designing a benefits plan that works for them.”

In collaboration with employee-benefits outsourcing partner Businessolver®, the platform provides the widest range of administrative flexibility available to employers, no matter what benefits decisions they make in response to new provisions of the Affordable Care Act in 2014. Those changes include the creation of insurance exchanges, which Assurex Global President and CEO Jim Hackbarth said have caused widespread confusion.

“Employers have been struggling for years with ever-increasing medical costs,” explained Hackbarth. “Health care reform requirements further complicate the decision-making process. This product not only helps employers budget for the future, it expands employee options, thereby allowing them to choose the best plan for themselves.”

The Assurex Global marketplace platform allows employers to maintain a competitive advantage by offering best-in-industry benefits while removing the heavy lifting of benefits administration. Among the key advantages are:

  • The ability to choose either a defined contribution or a defined benefits plan
  • A prepackaged set of medical and ancillary benefits for employers and their employees
  • Support for Affordable Care Act record-keeping responsibilities
  • A single-source administrative package
  • Marketplace business data integration
  • Flexible decision support tools that make employee choice easier

“Employers will need to decide how and where to direct employees in accessing medical benefits,” Hackbarth said. “Our product allows employers the flexibility to keep their current benefits program or choose from a wide variety of networks, plans and contribution strategies – including defined contribution strategies that limit employer costs.”

Assurex Global, the world’s largest privately held commercial insurance, risk management and employee-benefits brokerage group, expects to begin adding employers to the marketplace platform by the second quarter 2013.

KAPNICK INSURANCE GROUP RECOGNIZED FOR EXEMPLARY WORKPLACE PRACTICES

Receives prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility for second Year

Adrian, MI  (September, 21, 2011) – KAPNICK INSURANCE GROUP has been honored with the 2011
Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility for the second year for its use of flexibility as an effective workplace strategy to increase business and employee success.

This prestigious award, part of the national When Work Works project, recognizes employers of all sizes and types in the SE Michigan and across the country.

“We are thrilled to win this award for the second year in a row. We firmly believe that by allowing flexibility in our workplace it in turn fosters creativity and innovation, allowing us to have deeper and more meaningful relationships with our clients,” stated Jim Kapnick, president of Kapnick Insurance Group.

Workplace flexibility—such as flextime, part-time work and compressed workweeks—has been demonstrated to help businesses remain competitive while also benefiting employees as well.

“Our research consistently finds that employees in effective and flexible workplaces have greater engagement on the job and greater desire to stay with their organization. In addition, they report lower stress levels and better overall health,” states Ellen Galinsky, president of Families and Work Institute (FWI), a research think tank on workforce and workplace trends that administers the awards.

The Sloan Awards are unique for their rigorous, two-step selection process, which involves an evaluation of employers’ flexibility programs and practices, and a confidential employee survey. All applicants are measured against national norms from FWI’s National Study of Employers.

“As a recipient of the 2011 Sloan Award, KAPNICK INSURANCE GROUP ranks in the top 20% of employers nationally in terms of its programs, policies and culture for creating an effective and flexible workplace,” states Galinsky. “In addition, what makes this honor so special is that their employees have corroborated this, affirming that it is indeed an effective and flexible workplace.”

When Work Works is a national project to educate the business community on the value of workplace flexibility by sharing research and promising practices, and conducting the annual Sloan Awards. It is an ongoing initiative of Families and Work Institute first funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. In 2011, the Society for Human Resource Management and FWI formed a ground-breaking, multi-year partnership to grow When Work Works and help businesses become more successful by transforming the way they view and adopt effective and flexible workplaces.

The company’s two current Ann Arbor offices – Kapnick Insurance Group located on Victors Way and the Ufer & Co. office on Stadium Boulevard, will be consolidated into this one new location.

The project began in August, 2010 when Kapnick Insurance Group purchased the former La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery building on Briarwood Circle, and began extensive interior and exterior renovation.
