WHY YOU SHOULD REPORT LOSSES DIRECTLY TO YOUR INSURANCE CARRIER WITHIN 24 HOURS

Reporting new losses, claims, or potential claims to your insurance carrier promptly can be critical. Prompt reporting:

  • Better protects your interests
  • Enables your insurance carrier to resolve losses or claims quickly for everyone’s satisfaction – yours, any claimants, and your carrier
  • Often reduces the overall cost of a loss or claim. Losses or claims reported more than 5 days after they happen cost on average 35% more than those reported earlier

When reporting your claim to the insurance carrier directly, they will take down information pertaining to the claim and get an adjuster assigned. In many cases, they will tell you your claim number for future reference, as well as who the adjuster is and how to reach them. Your insurance carrier will notify Kapnick Insurance Group of your claim in order to keep us informed and allow us to act on your behalf to resolve any questions you may have. The insurance company adjuster will contact you to process the loss. If appropriate, they may want to schedule an appointment to view the damaged property.

If you encounter any problems, contact your Kapnick Claims Advocate immediately. They will act as an advocate between you and the insurance carrier. They represent only you, and will work diligently to solve any claims problems that may arise.

In Case of a Motor Vehicle Loss

  • Take precautions necessary to protect the scene of the accident from further accidents.
  • Call the police. If someone is injured request medical assistance. If fire is involved request fire department aid.
  • Be courteous. Answer police questions. Give identifying information to the other party involved, but make no comment about assuming liability.

In Case of Property Damage/Loss

If you should suffer a loss to your property (fire, windstorm, etc.):

  • Take emergency measures to protect your property from further damage.  Use tarps to keep rain out, board up windows, etc.
  • Save any bills/receipts from emergency repairs.
  • Don’t throw away any damaged items until you have talked with your claims representative.
